If a word is missing, spelled in a way you do not recognize, or carries a meaning your family uses differently, that is worth telling us. Iu Mien is spoken across many communities and there is rarely one right answer — the dictionary should record that, not flatten it.

Every entry you see is reviewed by a person before it changes. Nothing on this site is scraped, and nothing is generated.

A submission form is not built yet. Until it is, please write to us and name the word and the sense you mean.

For elders and families

The people who hold this language are the reason the project exists. If you would like to record words, phrases, or stories — in your own voice, at your own pace — we want to hear from you, and we will come to you rather than ask you to come to us.

Recordings stay yours. Nothing is published without your explicit, recorded consent, and you may withdraw it at any time.

For community organizations

This site is read as speaking on behalf of the Iu Mien community, so it should not name an organization that has not agreed to be named. If your organization is listed and you would like the description or the link changed — or would like to be removed — write to us and it will be changed.

If your organization is not listed and would like to be, we would be glad to talk about what a partnership should actually mean.

For researchers and students

The dictionary is backed by a structured database with a correction system built into it, and the project welcomes linguists, students, and archivists who want to work with it.
